La Cucarachas Part 3

PART 3 It happened our nightmare came true. Hubby spent the afternoon before nightfall in the bathroom emptying the cupboards checking behind the loo and the bidet, taping the overflow on the bath sink and bidet, we were safe no beastie will come in, or so we thought. We sprayed the bathroom with every toxic chemical we could find, nothing can live in there, not even us without a plastic suit and tea towel tied round our mouths. We sealed the bathroom door shut buying the stripy tape they show on tv, the strongest tape in the world from the Chinese shop, yes they sell everything, it stops anything get past, it says ‘Police do not cross’ on it, ha ha we have won. Nightfall came, time to open the bathroom with confidence. I was on first watch, I opened the door and flicked the light on to be met by a huge beast sitting on the sink tapping it’s antenna like fingers stroking a white cat, as if to say, welcome to my den. I yelled and grabbed more spray, hubby grabbed yon bowl we thought would be defunct, this time the antenna didn’t even fit in, yon beast was too big. Hubby manned up and scooped a dvd under the bowl to trap it, but what to do with it. We sprayed underneath the bowl and left it to die. An hour later we knew there could be no more, he opened the door another big bastard of a thing roared at him. This is too much. Arming himself with trousers trainers, a torch, a spray can, a bowl and after fighting this one to the death hubby turned into Rambo. Down the stairs armed to the teeth, he was gonna hunt them down, they have gone too far. On the wall one landed as if to tease, you can’t get me, he sprayed it, it screamed and fell into the apartment nt below. He reached the gate unlocked it and moved out onto the path torch in hand, picking out likely looking movement, no that was a bougainvillea flower blowing in the breeze, he sprayed it in case they were shape shifters, a lizard hid in the corner of the next apartment and that is where he found the mother load. One on the left, the spray can swung with practiced ease, on the right, up above, one in the corner, he was surrounded and then, the last one, he sprayed, nothing happened, he tried again, nothing he looked down the nozzle, shook the can, it was empty. He swore and picked his way back through writhing bodies, up the stairs where we locked the gate, the front door and put down a towel to close any gaps. We rechecked the bathroom, nothing, the kitchen, nothing, he collapsed on the bed. ‘I did it for you’ he spluttered as he fell into a fitful sleep. I kept guard, would the morning ever arrive, it did and we are here to tell the tale. We are rearmed and ready for tonight, they are not going to win, they may have been round for millions, or thousands of years, but WE are here now.
